Songwriter and singer Ray Signature has advised fellow songwriter Shena Skies to have a price tag to avoid clashing with artists.
Shena Skies has, on many occasions, complained that artists do not give her credit or even pay her for the songs she writes for them. Ray Signature, during his phone interview, noted that to avoid clashing with musicians, Shena had to put a price tag on her work, allowing her to turn down low-paying offers.
Speaking about the situation in the music industry, Ray Signature revealed that it had not yet stabilized, as artists were not earning from their craft and felt they needed each other’s support as they worked together.
“Since the industry has not yet stabilized, I cannot blame an artist for low pay. As a songwriter, if the money they are giving you is not enough, don’t take on the job because no one is forcing you. In this industry, people are helping each other out. Sometimes we do songs for free for people; it is not that we get paid all the time. I’m not against Shena’s statement, but to me, it is about the price tag you have attached to yourself,” he said.
During Shena’s submissions in her recent interview, he tagged artists as unappreciative; they not only fail to pay for her services but can’t even invite her to concerts where the songs she had written for them are headlining.
Ray Signature revealed that someone would rather recommend him for another client than demand credit from artists he has written for.
“To me, I do not go to events that I’m not invited to. I will only show up when they call me, even when there is no pay. I have written many songs, and artists have events at places like Serena, but unless they send me an invitation, I will not go. Even if we are good friends, I will not show up,” he said.

Ray Signature further noted that, as a songwriters’ committee, they would reach out to Shena Skies to see how they address the issue.
