President Museveni Commissions Upgrade of Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned the upgrade of Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road.

 

President Museveni who commissioned the upgrade on Friday, 11th July, 2025 thanked the residents of Kayunga for their patriotism in offering land without compensation to expedite the project saying it demonstrates their understanding of ekibaro, the smart calculation.

 

The Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road, which will reduce the journey from Northern Uganda to Kampala from 200 miles to 100 cutting costs and time of travel.

 

“Shortening the journey from Northern Uganda to Kampala will bring countless opportunities. To the people of Kayunga, thank you for your selfless patriotism,” says President Museveni on X.

 

The Ministry of Works and Transport reported on Friday that Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road is to be upgraded from the current gravel to bituminous (tarmac). The works will also include upgrading the Ferry Landing Site.

 

Upgrading this corridor will reduce travel time, boost trade, enhance agricultural and fisheries value chains, and promote regional integration through multi-modal transport.

 

The road provides the only direct access between Kayunga town and Galiraya, located on the shores of Lake Kyoga and is a strategic gateway connecting Central Uganda to Northern and North-Eastern region via ferry across Lake Kyoga.
