Police Roll Out Security and Traffic Plan for MP Nominations in Kampala

Date:

Kampala Metropolitan Police have announced a series of security and traffic measures ahead of the nominations for Members of Parliament to ensure a peaceful and orderly process. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Police and sister security agencies will conduct joint deployments at nomination centers to maintain law and order and prevent any disruptions.

Onyango said intelligence teams will closely monitor potential threats and take proactive measures to mitigate them. “There will be joint deployment of police and intelligence at nomination centers to maintain law and order, and prevent any potential disruptions,” Onyango said in a statement. He added that police will control crowds and ensure a safe distance between aspirants, their supporters, and other stakeholders, while working hand in hand with Electoral Commission officials to ensure the nomination process follows all legal and procedural guidelines.

“Candidates or their agents should work closely with security. If they are planning any rally after the nomination, they should inform the police of the venue and time,” Onyango advised. In a detailed traffic plan for the nomination exercise at the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda, Onyango said candidates will access the premises through the Kyambogo traffic lights using the Ntinda–Kyambogo junction. A cutoff point will be established immediately after the traffic lights, while parking will be provided at the International School near Canon Road.

After nomination, candidates will be escorted by police to UNEB via Naalya roundabout on the Northern Bypass and will not be allowed to access the city center. Each candidate is permitted to bring only two motor vehicles and six supporters. The rest of the supporters will not be allowed at the venue. Onyango urged all candidates and their teams to plan accordingly and cooperate with security personnel for a smooth nomination exercise.
