Phina Mugerwa Promises Return to Politics After First Election Defeat

Date:

Singer Phina Mugerwa, popularly known as Phina Masanyalaze, has vowed to contest again for the position of Female Workers Member of Parliament in the next coming elections despite losing terribly this year.

Speaking about her loss, Phina Mugerwa revealed that she gave it her all, acknowledging that she lost, unbothered by critics, and remained focused on her dream.

“I tried my level best and lost, but I know next time we will make it. My loss is not a story, not an insult, nor a problem. It’s always good to try. Never fail to try. I thank the one person who voted for me,” she said.

While many expected Mugerwa to contest the election result on grounds of possible malpractice, she acknowledged her loss, said she had moved on, called it a good experience, and promised to come back.

“Do you know how many times the founder of KFC tried? He is a billionaire now, so watch the space. We have to keep trying. It was a very good experience. It was my first time to go political and be a leader in the creative sector for some good time, it was an experience,” she said.

As General Secretary of the Uganda Musicians Association and Vice Chairperson of the Uganda National Culture Centre Board, Mugerwa believes her leadership roles give her the ground to represent and advocate for the creative sector at the policy level.

“Of course I will come again. I will keep trying till I make it because that is my dream. I have been an advocate in the creative sector, and it is high time we got some representation on the policy level,” she said.
