PFF launches members’ recruitment drive

Date:

The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) launched its membership card and opened candidate nominations marking significant steps toward the 2026 elections.

Speaking to the press,  PFF Electoral Commission chairperson Michael Kabaziguruka criticized President Museveni for undermining the rule of law, particularly citing the detention of PFF leader Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye without cause.

Kabaziguruka warned that Museveni’s actions could lead to future accountability.

The PFF membership card, priced at Shs 5,000, is mandatory for all members, including candidates, with the first card reserved for Besigye.

The nomination process, running until July 31, 2025, seeks aspirants for positions like Members of Parliament, Lord Mayor, city mayors, district chairpersons, and district councillors.

Candidates must submit a PFF membership card, national ID, certified academic documents, and completed forms with details such as name, contact, and National Identification Number. Nomination fees range from Shs 500,000 for Lord Mayor to Shs 10,000 for Local Council III.

Forms are available at PFF’s Kampala head office or district offices, with revised guidelines allowing nominations in absentia.

PFF also announced plans to propose electoral amendments to enable Ugandans in the diaspora to participate in the 2026 elections, responding to interest from Ugandans in the UK, US, and other countries.

This aligns with a 2020 High Court ruling affirming diaspora voting rights but faces challenges, including legal barriers, logistical complexities, and a Shs 623.9 billion funding gap reported by the Electoral Commission.

Wycliff Bakanonda, a PFF council member, urged youths to join the party, accusing Museveni’s regime of suppressing freedoms and driving citizens into exile or prison.
