PFF attacks Owiny-Dollo for being ‘partial’

Date:

Dr. Michael Lulume Bayigga, vice chairman of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) for Buganda, has criticized Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo for remarks that Bayigga claims intimidate lawyers advocating for their clients’ bail.

Speaking at a press conference at PFF’s Katonga Road headquarters in Kampala, Bayigga argued that Dollo’s statements undermine the constitutional right to bail and accused him of making politically charged comments unfit for his judicial position.

Bayigga emphasized that PFF founder Dr. Kizza Besigye, who has been on remand for over 180 days, is entitled to bail, and his legal team is justified in pursuing it.

“Why would Chief Justice Owinyi Dollo intimidate the lawyers of this country? Dollo has crossed the line. He should not utter such political statements while using his respected judicial office, or else we shall force him to return to Agago and see whether he can be able to seek the mandate of the people,” he said.

Bayigga also criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to properly demarcate constituencies, alleging it serves the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) by creating constituencies to favour its candidates.

Michael Kabiziguruka, the chairperson of the PFF’s electoral body, said aspirants for local government, especially LCV, have two weeks to return their nomination forms. MPs still have up to October.

Kabaziguruka outlined PFF’s upcoming mobilization drives:

August 19, 2025: Office opening in Acholi subregion.
August 20, 2025: Office openings in Moroto and Kotido, plus a Karamoja convention.
August 22, 2025: Office opening in Rukiga and Kabale convention (Kigezi subregion).
August 26, 2025: Office opening in Fort Portal (Toro subregion).
August 27, 2025: Office opening in Luweero.
August 28, 2025: Buganda convention.
August 29, 2025: Busia convention and office opening (Bukedi subregion).
August 31, 2025: Soroti convention and office opening in Kumi (Teso subregion).
September 22, 2025: Amolatar convention and office opening (Lango subregion).
September 23, 2025: Bukwo convention and office opening (Sebei subregion).
September 24, 2025: Mbale convention and office opening (Bugisu subregion).

He said these efforts aim to build grassroots support for PFF, a party formed by former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) members, ahead of the 2026 elections.
