Peasants Party calls for fair treatment of Ugandans ahead of 2026 elections

Date:

Robert Kasibante, the presidential flagbearer of the National Peasants Party (NPP), has called for fair treatment of all Ugandans as the country heads towards the 2026 general elections.

“I urge all Ugandans to respect the law, just as the security organs should, so that our country maintains peace and stability during the upcoming elections,” he told Bbeg Media.

A first-time presidential candidate in the 2026 polls, Kasibante said the government, through security agencies such as the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, and intelligence agencies, must treat citizens with respect and refrain from abusing their human and constitutional rights during the campaign period.

He said many opposition supporters had recently suffered brutality and torture at the hands of security agencies, actions he described as being contrary to the Electoral Commission Act, which guarantees every Ugandan the right to support a candidate of their choice during campaigns.

Kasibante also urged Ugandans to prioritise safety during the festive season so they are able to participate in the 2026 elections. He cautioned against excessive drinking, particularly while driving, warning that it could lead to fatal accidents.

Presenting himself as a symbol of Uganda’s peasants, Kasibante asked voters to back his bid for the presidency, arguing that the ruling NRM government had failed to deliver key services. He cited poor education standards, the absence of a minimum wage, limited youth empowerment, human rights abuses, poor road infrastructure, and a lack of independence of the judiciary and parliament.

He said that, if elected, his administration would prioritise political transition, respect for the rule of law, positive regional diplomacy and efficient service delivery.

He urged Ugandans to support his candidature in the election scheduled for January 15, 2026, saying it was time for President Museveni to leave power.
