KAMPALA, Uganda — Pearl Bank continued its strong performance trajectory by securing the Banking Services General Banking Accolade at the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, held Nov. 5 at Hotel Africana.

The award recognized the bank, which was formerly known as PostBank, for its excellence in general banking services reporting under the awards’ theme, “Sustainability Practices and Reporting in Uncertain Global Times.” The honor is the latest in a series of achievements for the bank, including the recent attainment of the Sustainability Certification in Germany in October.

The FiRe Awards, established in 2011 by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), the Capital Markets Authority, and the Uganda Securities Exchange, aim to enhance the quality of financial and business reporting in Uganda by promoting transparency and best practices.

Peter Ssenyange, the chief financial officer at Pearl Bank, said the accolades are essential for industry improvement.

“Such engagements hold us accountable not only being advocates for best practices in financial reporting but practicing these in our day-to-day operations,” Ssenyange said. This practice, he noted, enables the bank to transparently showcase its performance and provide critical information for shareholders and all stakeholders.

Ssenyange himself received personal recognition earlier this year, winning the Chief Financial Officer of the Year and the Sustainability Awards at the 2025 CFO Awards.

CPA Timothy David Ediomu, ICPAU president, emphasized the broader purpose of the event.

“The Awards encourage organizations to go beyond compliance, to tell their stories holistically, and to demonstrate how their financial decisions align with broader societal goals,” Ediomu said.

The chief guest, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, vice chancellor of Uganda Christian University, congratulated all winners and commended the organizing bodies for their commitment to upholding best practices in financial reporting.

As the bank transitions to its new identity, it continues to implement its five-year strategic plan, focusing on high-impact goals such as driving sustainable financial inclusion and stimulating entrepreneurship and service, which align with its purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans.

About Pearl Bank: Pearl Bank is a limited liability commercial bank incorporated in 1998 and is 100% owned by the government of Uganda. It operates 57 branches and more than 8,000 agents nationwide.
