Gagamel boss and musician Bebe Cool has bragged about topping international chart lists together with Joshua Baraka.
When Bebe Cool unveiled his album, he revealed that he had explored a different sound that he thought was trending on a global scale. The album is an infusion of Afrobeat, Afro-Tech, and Afropop as Bebe Cool ventures into various genres, staying relevant in a world where Afrobeat is going viral.
According to Bebe Cool, East African music was trending globally about 15 years ago, and they received nominations from international awards, such as the Kora in South Africa and the Mobo in the UK.
The singer explains that they became comfortable and never pushed to do better until they were awakened by the Nigerian Music industry, which took the charts by storm.
In his explanation, he revealed that Joshua Baraka topped the list of the top 100 most-streamed songs on Spotify in Uganda, followed by several of his songs.

For Uganda, the top 100 most-streamed songs on Spotify, we have only 2 Ugandans: Joshua Baraka and Bebe Cool. The rest of the 97 songs are from Nigerians, he said.
Bebe Cool noted that music fans in Uganda were streaming Nigerian music due to its unique sound and quality. He, therefore, advised artists to jump on the trend and give their fans exactly what they are looking for instead of fighting them over what they listen to.
Instead of fighting them and asking why they are streaming that, go back and do precisely what those Nigerians have done. Give your people the option they want. We have covered all music genres, but it’s good to know what the market requires, he revealed.
Bebe Cool further explained that he struggled to get his music to top the charts again, but the world had evolved. He decided to follow the same direction with his new album, and ever since he took the bold step, his monthly listeners and subscribers have increased significantly in number.

For me, I kept on trying to push my Ugandan thing, but it wasn’t working. So, I decided to give them what they wanted, and guess what, they are now streaming it. Thirty days ago, I had only 40 monthly streamers, but now I’m clocking 170. I had less than 800,000 streams, but after 30 days, I’ve accumulated around 2 million streams. It is an obvious thing that our artists need to look at,” Bebe Cool spoke to Kiss 100 radio during his album tour in Kenya.
