One Suspect Killed, Another Arrested In Kitintale Foiled Daylight Robbery

Date:

A robbery attempt at a mobile money outlet in Kitintale, a Kampala suburb, ended in violence on Thursday morning, leaving one suspected robber dead and another in police custody.

The incident began when two armed men targeted mobile money agents Ibrahim Ssebanenya and Rashid Kyeyune, demanding cash and attempting to flee with the stolen money. Their plan was foiled when the victims escaped and raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from local residents and Kitintale Police.

During the pursuit, one suspect, Farouk Matovu, was apprehended with help from the community and is now detained at Jinja Road Police Station. The second suspect, who tried to evade arrest by firing gunshots, was fatally shot by a UPDF soldier in Bugolobi. A rifle and two short magazines were recovered from the deceased.

Police are continuing investigations to identify possible accomplices and determine the amount of money involved.

This case reflects a broader trend of rising attacks on mobile money agents in Kampala, highlighting growing concerns about their safety and the need for stronger protective measures.
