Ofwono Opondo promises to teach minister Gidudu a lesson

Date:

Ofwono Opondo, the former executive director of the Uganda Media Centre (UMC), has issued a stern warning to the Minister of State for Gender in charge of Elderly Affairs, Dominic Mafwabi Gidudu, that he will teach him a leadership lesson inleadership during the upcoming elections.

Opondo, a veteran journalist and aspiring candidate for the parliamentary seat representing Older Persons in Eastern Uganda—currently held by Gidudu—made these remarks during a recent interview with Bbeg Media at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Kyaddondo Road in Kampala.

“I have been traversing the Eastern region, campaigning vigorously, and I am confident I will defeat minister Gidudu,” Opondo declared.

He said his recent election as the Publicity Secretary for Older Persons in Tororo District within the NRM, showed his commitment to securing the region’s support.

Opondo emphasized that his voice in Parliament would champion reason and defend the interests of the NRM.

“Parliament is not for stammering or whispering but for promoting the collective goals of the NRM and the country at large,” he said.

Opondo is a familiar figure to many Ugandans, known for his bold and outspoken commentary on TV and radio talk shows.

Political observers believe that, if elected, Opondo’s experience and eloquence could make him a formidable voice in parliamentary debates.

Both Opondo and Gidudu are vying for the Older Persons’ parliamentary seat in Eastern Uganda, a constituency spanning 40 districts across the Busoga, Bukedi, Bugisu, Sebei, and Teso sub-regions.
