Nyanzi appeals to the diaspora to raise more funds to boost NUP campaign

Date:

Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, the National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary candidate for Kawempe South and an elder brother to its leader Robert Kyagulanyi, has appealed to party supporters abroad to increase financial contributions ahead of the 2026 general elections, saying the funds are critical to mobilisation and campaign logistics.

Speaking to Bbeg Media, Nyanzi, who also serves as NUP’s secretary for international relations, said support from Ugandans in the diaspora would play a decisive role in strengthening the party’s campaign structures across the country.

“Our members abroad have always stood with us. We are asking them to do even more so that we can mobilise effectively and protect the vote in 2026,” Nyanzi said. He urged supporters to channel resources towards grassroots organisations and voter education.

He called on Ugandans at home to pick their voter location slips early and prepare to vote for Kyagulanyi and other NUP flag bearers, arguing that early mobilisation would be key to electoral success.

Nyanzi also used the occasion to criticise President Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), accusing the government of undermining democratic institutions and presiding over widespread human rights abuses. He alleged that security agencies were acting on political orders rather than serving the public interest.

“I agree with the Archbishop [Paul Ssemogerere’s] call for respect for the rule of law and human rights by security agencies. That respect must be real, not selective,” he said, referring to remarks made during the Christmas service.

Nyanzi asked voters in Kawempe South to support his bid, promising unity and effective representation.

He said Kawempe South deserved leadership that would speak firmly in parliament on issues affecting ordinary Ugandans, including unemployment, the cost of living, and political freedoms.
