NUP Special Committee Finds Fred Nyanzi Guilty of Extortion and Sexual Harassment in Party Ticket Scandal

Date:

A special investigative committee instituted by National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has found his elder brother, Fred Nyanzi, guilty of extortion and sexual harassment in exchange for party tickets.

The committee, headed by NUP Deputy President for Western Uganda Jolly Tukamushaba, has uncovered incriminatory evidence that Nyanzi demanded millions of shillings from aspiring candidates seeking to contest under the NUP banner.

According to the report, the investigation uncovered a structured extortion scheme, with details of how Nyanzi systematically demanded payments from aspiring candidates at different levels.

“Nyanzi asked for money between UGX50 million to 300 million for those vying to be members of parliament and UGX10 million to 50 million for those intending to be LCV Chairperson, municipal and division mayors,” the report reads in part.

The report further reveals that Nyanzi targeted young female candidates vying for lower positions, such as councillors, demanding sexual favours from those who lacked financial means.

“The committee documented testimony from several young women who stated that Nyanzi explicitly demanded sexual favours in exchange for party nomination. Multiple witnesses confirmed he conditioned the awarding of party flags on these demands,” the report states.

A committee member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the findings backed by victim testimonies and evidence have been forwarded to Bobi Wine for action.

“We have gathered substantial testimonies from victims of both sexual harassment and extortion. The complete report, including all supporting evidence, has been formally submitted to the party president for appropriate action,” he stated.

However, several victims are skeptical whether Bobi Wine will take any action against his brother since he is also a direct beneficiary.

Latif Ssebagala, a victim turned whistleblower who brought these allegations to light on social media, prompting Bobi Wine to announce an investigation, stated that this is not Nyanzi’s first scandal, yet no action has ever been taken against him.

“Nyanzi has been involved in controversies before, but the party president always shields him. In 2021, he was accused of illegally selling NUP flags, yet no action was taken. This pattern raises serious questions: Does NUP truly hold its leaders accountable, or are some members above the rules?”

Ahead of the 2026 elections, the Nyanzi issue has put the party’s credibility under intense scrutiny. Failure to take decisive action against Nyanzi could deter supporters and donors, undermining both its moral standing and financial mobilization.
