The National Unity Platform Party selection of flagbearers is currently taking place at the party headquarters in Kavule disguisedly to vet different aspirants for the respective electoral positions.
Tensions are already high with some party members and aspirants complaining of irregularities and foul play in the selection process. Reliable sources indicate that several positions have been ring-fenced for Bobi Wine’s family members and close friends at the expense of other aspirants who have toiled for the party growth.
Nakawa division mayorship position has been ring-fenced for Nubian lee, Kampala Central constituency has been ring-fenced for the Party secretary general Lewis Lubongoya and Kawempe South that has been ring-fenced for Bobi Wine’s brother Nyanzi has brought in many serious questions from aspirants like Loy Ssemboga who have invested in heavily to take the seat.
The most intriguing part in the whole selection process is that Bobi Wine has collected money from all aspirants in the name of party fundraising, including those he intends to evict and eruption is eminent as soon as the list is out, which will see the party witness many members cross to other political parties.
The dictatorship and selfishness by Bobi Wine who claims to be an activist for democracy has left many Ugandans wondering what would happen if he takes over power. Ideally, vetting would be the issue of party primaries or delegates conference but Bobi Wine has a hand in everything to the extent that his brother Nyanzi is in charging of selling party tickets to flagbearers at exorbitant rates.
The National Unity Platform that started as a pro-people political party fighting for democratic principles has turned out to be a group of scammers using a political party to amass wealth. The NUP members of parliament have come out to complain how Bobi Wine sells them party tickets through his brother, takes 10 million off their money for cars, all this on top of monthly contribution from their salaries for Bobi Wine’s upkeep. Unfortunately, all those who have come out to openly express dissatisfaction like Abed Bwanika and Mathias Mpuuga have indirectly been forced out of the party.
The outcomes of the vetting process will be another big blow to the crumbling party whose purpose has been to enrich Bobi Wine and family. As we near elections in January 2026, Bobi Wine is busy defrauding his supporters both locally and abroad collecting money as he buys expensive properties in Uganda and abroad through his family members. As other politicians are busy building and strengthening party structures in preparation for January elections, the NUP principal and his cronies are getting richer at a personal level as they deceive their so called foot soldiers with empty promises and surprisingly some hope to win the 2026 elections without mobilization.
The ongoing selection at Kavule in the name of vetting is a complete attack on democracy and will expose Uganda’s opposition the more. The cries and frustration from the neglected aggrieved aspirants will have more secrets revealed as they wait to lose the 2026 elections to the NRM.
