The National Unity Platform (NUP) has rescheduled the start of its vetting exercise for MPs MPs from August 20 to September 15, 2025. The exercise will now be conducted from September 15 to September 22.
The party said the changes have been necessitated by the Electoral Commission’s decision to change the nomination date for Members of Parliament to October.
This development was announced by NUP Electoral Management Committee (EMC) chairperson Harriet Chemutayi, who criticized the Electoral Commission for frequently altering its roadmap, which has disrupted the activities of NUP and other political players in the country.
“We have been forced to change our vetting exercise for Members of Parliament, which was scheduled to start next week, to next month, tentatively,” she told journalists today.
Currently, NUP has begun its vetting exercise for municipality mayors, division mayors, and city mayors in Kampala district. The party also reported that vetting exercises conducted across all regions have been successful.
On the other hand, Lusagala Bosco, a contestant for Makindye Division mayor, expressed optimism about securing the party’s flag after a successful vetting process.
He urged his counterparts vying for the same position to respect the party’s principles by not running as independents if they fail to secure the party ticket.
