NRM’s Wanyama Wins Eastern Youth MP Seat

Judas Tadeo Wanyama of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has won the Eastern Youth parliamentary seat with 1,174 votes in a closely watched race.

The official results were announced by Regional Electoral Officer Deo Atukunda, who confirmed Wanyama defeated five other candidates. Independent candidate Timothy Kadaga Kivunike finished second with 497 votes, followed by another independent, Emmanuel Omaria, with 438 votes.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Ivan Masawi, received 19 votes, while Simon Wandugwa of the National Unity Platform (NUP) polled 9 votes. Independent candidate Josephine Nambozo did not secure any votes.A total of 2,137 valid votes were cast, with four ballots declared invalid.

Speaking after his declaration, Wanyama thanked the youth of Eastern Uganda for their support and pledged to represent all young people, regardless of political affiliation. “I am deeply humbled by the trust the youth of Eastern Uganda have given me. This victory is not just for NRM but for all young people. I promise to be a voice for unity, empowerment, and development,” he said.

Election officials described the voting exercise as peaceful and well-conducted, urging all candidates and their supporters to remain calm and united.
