A 28-year-old, Yoramu Baguma has been charged with three counts of assault, disobedience of lawful orders, and intent to alarm, annoy, and ridicule the person of the President.
The offences were allegedly committed on March 11, 2025, at Mbogo Playgrounds in Kawempe, Kampala, where President Museveni was campaigning for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Faridah Nambi, in the Kawempe North Member of Parliament by-election.
Baguma emerged from the crowd, jumped over security barriers, and sprinted towards the president.
The Special Forces Command (SFC), which is responsible for the president’s protection, swiftly intercepted and subdued him before he could reach the head of state.
The incident was recorded on a phone by attendees, and the video quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread discussion.
Today, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Baguma appeared before the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was formally charged with assault, disobedience of lawful orders, and acting with intent to alarm, annoy, and ridicule the person of the President.
Kawempe Chief Magistrate Damali Agumasiimwe declined to have Baguma take a plea, stating that the charges are capital in nature and fall outside the jurisdiction of the magistrate’s court.
