President Museveni has praised the National Resistance Movement (NRM) members for their strong participation in the party’s primaries held on July 17, 2025, while strongly condemning reported irregularities that marred the process in some areas.
In a statement issued after the primaries, Museveni highlighted the significant turnout and addressed concerns about electoral malpractices, vowing to hold perpetrators accountable.
He expressed dismay over reports of electoral misconduct in some regions, including altering results, tampering with registers, violence leading to injuries and deaths, and bribery.
“I must condemn, in the strongest terms, what I started hearing in some areas where some unpatriotic actors are alleged to have committed the following mistakes,” Museveni stated, listing the offenses.
He emphasized that such actions are “politically and ideologically wrong” and urged NRM members to reject leaders who engage in violence or cheating, as they undermine the party’s mission to address solvable problems, or mikyeno, of Ugandans.
Museveni outlined the NRM’s achievements as evidence of effective leadership, including improved security, elimination of diseases like polio through immunization, economic liberalization, and poverty reduction initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“All these are Government (the NRM) programmes that kukyenuura People (solving their problems) when they are properly down-loaded,” he said, urging support for leaders who implement these programs effectively.
Addressing the reported irregularities, Museveni promised swift action against those responsible. “We are, therefore, going to prosecute these mistake-makers,” he declared, noting that altering results is easily traceable since voting occurred publicly by lining up behind candidates. “If, therefore, you altered the results, we are coming for you,” he warned.
He also raised concerns about potential attempts to disarm security personnel, referencing alleged plans for coordinated riots, and called for further scrutiny of tampered registers.
Despite the challenges, Museveni congratulated NRM members for their participation and encouraged them to remain calm where issues arose.’
“Where problems were encountered, do not be provoked. We shall get the culprits,” he assured.
