NRM MPs from Kasese Push for Specialized Treatment for Rwenzururu King

Date:

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament from Kasse District have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, requesting urgent medical intervention for the ailing Rwenzururu King, His Majesty Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma.

The legislators argue that the monarch has not received adequate medical care since his arrest in 2016.

While their plea has sparked public debate, the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (Rwenzururu Kingdom) has responded, acknowledging the MPs’ concerns but clarifying that the petition was not officially submitted on behalf of the Kingdom.

In a letter dated April 18, 2025, and received by the President’s Office on April 22, 2025, the lawmakers highlighted the King’s worsening health and urged the government to facilitate specialized treatment to safeguard his life.

The appeal follows growing concern among the people of Rwenzururu over the King’s wellbeing. The MPs stressed that Omusinga Mumbere’s health is not only a personal matter for his family but also a crucial issue for the cultural heritage of the Bakonzo people.

The legislators expressed confidence that President Museveni, known for his compassionate leadership, would take swift action to ensure the King receives proper medical attention.

However, the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu clarified that while the petition did not originate from the Kingdom, its intentions are appreciated.

Mr. Patrick Muhesi, the 1st Deputy Prime Minister of the Rwenzururu Kingdom, noted that the President had already issued key directives earlier this year regarding the King’s medical care.

The Kingdom urged its subjects to remain calm, assuring them that while the King’s condition is not life-threatening, he still requires urgent medical attention.
