NRM members in Kiruhura protest appointment of new registrars

Voters in Kitura Sub County, Kashongi County, Kiruhura District, have protested against the appointment of 40 new registrars who were recruited. The voters are demanding the reinstatement of the old registras.

Kahima James, one of the protestors, says that the District NRM Executive Committee changed the registrars on Tuesday, just a day before the voting day.

He states that they are not happy with the changes, noting that they might be influenced by big people who want to tamper with the outcomes of the voting.

Tumusiime Obadia, another NRM member, says the envelopes that contain the declaration forms and the registers were not sealed.

Alex Katamba, the District NRM Registrar, says the issues are being handled by him. However, the appointment of new registrars was done following the NRM guidelines.

Moses Nkesiga Kamiisi, the Kiruhura District NRM Chairperson, says Kitura Sub County was identified as a hot spot, noting that security is handling the situation.

Voting that was scheduled to start at 10 Am and end at 2 pm had not yet started at 1 pm.
