NRM invites opposition as the Kyankwanzi retreat dates are confirmed

Date:

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced that its annual retreat at Kyankwanzi will take place from April 7 to 15.

The retreat is expected to bring together newly elected members of the 12th parliament, senior party leaders, and a number of independent members of parliament.

Norbert Mao, the president of the Democratic Party and minister of justice, is also expected to attend.

Speaking on the development, NRM secretary general Richard Todwong confirmed Mao’s participation, citing the existing cooperation agreement between the Democratic Party and the NRM.

“Yes, it is healthy for him to attend. We are still in good terms with him. We also implore the opposition to embrace the retreat. We shall try to invite them, which is the best thing we want as a party so that they can benefit from it,” Todwong said.

This year’s retreat will be held under the theme: “Aligning NRM leaders towards protecting the gains and linking the country to middle-income status.”

NRM deputy secretary general Rose Namayanja said the retreat will focus on several key issues.

These include ideological training for new members, regional integration, and an analysis of the global geopolitical environment.

Delegates will also receive a keynote address from party national chairman Yoweri Museveni outlining the government’s direction.

Other topics on the agenda include political economy, the theory of Musevenomics, and Uganda’s socio-economic transformation through human capital development in sectors such as education, information technology, and health.

The NRM retreat is held annually at Kyankwanzi and is funded by the government of Uganda.
