NRM Endorses Museveni as Party Presidential Flag bearer for 2026

Date:

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as its presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.

The announcement was made today, Wednesday, at Kololo Independence Grounds by NRM Secretary-General Richard Todwong, during the party’s national delegate’s conference.

The high-profile event drew thousands of party members and leaders from all over the country, many dressed in the party’s signature yellow.

Todwong told the cheering crowd that Museveni remains the sole candidate for the party’s top position, confirming both his flag bearer status and his role as NRM’s national chairman.

“President Museveni is still our most trusted leader,” he has the experience, the vision, and the support across all regions. No one else in the party currently matches his influence,” Todwong declared.

He added that the endorsement didn’t come as a surprise to most. Museveni, secured the NRM ticket in past elections often with little to no internal competition. His leadership has been defined by a focus on stability, rural development, infrastructure expansion, and regional diplomacy.

He further noted that with this endorsement, Museveni has officially begun his journey toward the 2026 elections. He added that this early support gives him a strong head start, allowing the party to unite around a single message and candidate.

“We agreed as a team Museveni remains the most strategic choice. He gives us stability, both within the party and in the country. The transition will come, but not now,” Todwong said.

Additionally, for many NRM supporters, the endorsement is about more than just winning an election it’s about maintaining continuity and keeping the country on a stable and familiar path.

“He is a tested leader,” we trust him. Uganda is safer and more stable with him in charge,” Todwong added.

The NRM is expected to roll out a national mobilization campaign starting later this year, focusing on engaging the youth, pushing its economic transformation agenda, and defending its legacy.
