The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has summoned all Members of Parliament and LCV aspirants from Manafwa district to appear before the commission in Kampala.

Tanga Odoi’s letter

The summons letter, dated July 9, 2025 was issued by the commission’s chairperson, Tanga Odoi, in response to the violent clashes that erupted between supporters of two rival candidates, Kefwa Mafumo and Godfrey Wakooli, during a joint campaign rally in Butiru constituency.

The violence, which occurred on Tuesday, 8th July, prompted a UPDF soldier, who serves as the bodyguard of Manafwa Resident District Commissioner Patient Webule, to fire into the air to disperse the fighting supporters.

Charles Walimbwa Peke, the Manafwa district NRM Chairperson, confirmed that all candidates will appear before the commission to resolve their grievances, (today, 10th July, 2025).

In light of the incident, Peke announced that all campaigns in the district have been suspended for one day to allow for the outcome of the meetings scheduled for today.

The NRM Electoral Commission aims to address the violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process in the district.
