Tensions are rising within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Moroto District as several aspirants allege bias and interference from party leadership ahead of the upcoming primary elections. During a harmonization meeting convened by the district security committee to align with electoral guidelines, concerns were raised over the conduct of the newly elected NRM district chairperson.
Candidates claim the chairperson is not remaining neutral, accusing him of favoring incumbents and engaging in activities that compromise the fairness of the primaries. Some aspirants, including John Robert Adupa of Lotisan Sub County and Ceaser Akol Abura of Matheniko County, expressed frustration over what they described as open campaigning by the chairperson on behalf of certain candidates and manipulation attempts within the party structure.

There were also concerns about the party’s failure to adequately induct new leaders, resulting in skewed support and an uneven playing field for some aspirants. Accusations of intimidation, misuse of security forces, and politically motivated arrests have further fueled fears of unfair competition and internal rifts.
Other aspirants, such as Andrew Napaja and Albert Lokoru, highlighted the growing role of misinformation and propaganda on social media, warning of possible violence if the situation is not addressed. They urged both the party and security agencies to maintain neutrality, ensure transparency, and protect equal campaign opportunities for all candidates.
In his defense, NRM district chairperson John Logwe dismissed the allegations as baseless, suggesting the claims stem from past political grudges. He reaffirmed his commitment to neutrality, arguing that his administrative duties do not extend to managing the electoral process, and warned against blame-shifting and divisive politics.
The internal discord reflects broader challenges the NRM faces in maintaining party cohesion and electoral integrity as the primaries approach.
