NBS TV’s Kin Kariisa resigns from AFCON organising committee citing ‘personal reasons’

The CEO of Next Media, Kin Kariisa, has resigned as a member of the organising committee for the CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 tournament set to be held in Uganda.

In a letter dated July 1, 2025, addressed to the chairperson of the committee, Kariisa cited personal reasons for his decision, effective immediately.

Kariisa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside a dedicated team and highlighted the committees’ efforts in preparing Uganda to host the tournaments. He said he was proud of the progress made by the commitee so far.

“While I may no longer serve in an official capacity, I remain fully supportive of the committee’s efforts,” he wrote.

In May, Kariisa, was placed on the marketing committee of Uganda’s AFCON 2027 planning team.

Kariisa’s resignation letter was copied to Janet Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports and Dr Canon Kedrace Turyagyenda, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, who was the overall hand of the organising team.
