National Youth Council members accuse NRM of ‘using’ them [VIDEO]

Date:

Members of the National Youth Council (NYC) from several districts have accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of using them for political mobilisation and abandoning them without facilitation ahead of the  January 15, 2026 general elections.

The disgruntled youth leaders say their grievances stem from a meeting held in October last year, during which NRM chairperson President Museveni met several national youth leaders and promised Shs3.5 billion to facilitate youth mobilisation across the country.

With just seven days left to polling day, the youth leaders say they fulfilled their mobilisation role but have been sidelined, with the benefits allegedly handed to other individuals.

Stephen Ndyamuhaki, a youth leader from Rwampara district, said they were tasked to mobilise young people for the NRM but have not received any funding from the party. [WATCH VIDEO]

“President Museveni asked us to prepare a budget of Shs3.5 billion and he approved it. Up to now, nothing has been remitted,” Ndyamuhaki said.

Ndyamuhaki and other youth leaders, dressed in yellow T-shirts and holding placards bearing protest messages against the NRM, said they feel betrayed by a party they loyally served.

The group claims to represent more than 648,000 elected youth leaders who serve as NRM flag bearers, mobilisers and voters countrywide.

They further allege that the National Youth Council has been systematically sidelined from political mobilisation despite clear commitments made by both the NRM secretary general and the party chairperson.

Alex Wamakota, a youth council member from eastern Uganda, said facilitation for mobilisation was approved by the president but may have been misappropriated by some party officials.

“The facilitation was okayed at the highest level, but somewhere along the way the money may have been eaten,” Wamakota said.

The youth leaders have now issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding an audience with the NRM chairperson. They warned that failure to secure the meeting would force them to pursue legal options.
