Two officials in Namisindwa district have been arrested for allegedly selling government land without permission.
The officials who were arrested on Friday, 20th June, 2025 and later released on police bond are Robert Kurobe, the town clerk of Bubutu town council, and Moses Mutambo, the LCIII chairperson Bubutu Town Council.
The arrests were made on the orders of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
According to Julie Namara, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Namisindwa, the officials are accused of selling part of Bubutu town council land without the consent of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
During questioning, Kurobe claimed the land was leased to developers, but further investigation revealed that the land had been sold.
Both officials were detained at Namisindwa Central Police Station, pending advice from the DPP on whether they will be taken to court.
This arrest follows a pattern of alleged corruption and misconduct by district officials, including extortion of the Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries.
In 2023, three officials from Bukhabusi sub-county were arrested for extorting money from PDM beneficiaries, highlighting a broader issue of corruption within the district.
The district has also faced controversy over the recruitment of staff, with allegations of irregularities and disregard for public service guidelines.
