Nakasongola County MP Loses Election Petition

Date:

Nakasongola, Uganda – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Elections Disputes Tribunal has dismissed a petition by Nakasongola County MP Noah Mutebi Wanzala, citing insufficient evidence.

Mutebi, the incumbent MP since 2016, lost the NRM primaries to rival Stephen Tibelondwa Bujjingo, who secured 10,531 votes against Mutebi’s 7,186.

Mutebi alleged irregularities, including ineligible voters and result tampering, but the tribunal upheld Bujjingo’s victory.

“The declaration of Stephen Bujjingo Tibelondwa as flagbearer is hereby upheld,” ruled the panel led by Anthony Bazira.

A separate petition by Nakasongola District Speaker Rogers Bwanga was also dismissed.

Both Mutebi and Bwanga have declared they will run as independents.
