Nowomugisha Sedrack Nzaire, brother to President Museveni, has been nominated to contest for the Vice Chairperson position for the Western Region on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Dressed in an NRM cap and yellow shirt, Nzaire, accompanied by his supporters, urged party delegates to back his candidacy. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening party structures to ensure success in the 2026 elections.
“I have been duly nominated to stand as your Vice Chairperson for the Western Region on the party’s executive committee, where policies addressing your concerns are drafted,” Nzaire stated.
“I ask for your support to serve you and dedicate my energies to this role.”
Nzaire, who has served as the NRM chairperson for Kiruhura district for 15 years, highlighted his experience in tackling issues such as logistics, tribalism, and nepotism.
He vowed to fight corruption and arrogance within the party, which he claimed have tarnished the NRM’s image. “These elements deviate from the values on which the NRM was built,” he said, calling for unity among party members to advance the organization’s goals.
He also pledged to foster a stronger connection between the party and public service, advocating for competent cadres to draft and implement people-centered policies.
Nzaire described his candidacy as a “fundamental change” for Uganda, emphasizing his ability to address the needs of diverse groups, including youths, single mothers, and other demographics across the country.
Other candidates vying for the same position include ICT Minister and incumbent Vice Chairperson Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, businessman Jonad Asiimwe, former presidential assistant Duncan Abigaba, PLU’s Micheal Mawanda, and Blaise Kamugisha.
