Museveni Pledges to Recruit 1,400 Health Inspectors to Curb Drug Theft

Date:

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has announced plans to recruit more than 1,400 health inspectors for Health Centre IIIs across the country to curb drug theft in government hospitals.

Addressing supporters at Pabo Primary School playgrounds in Amuru District, Museveni said his government has already fulfilled its promises on drug supply and the construction of health facilities but still faces challenges with theft.

“The NRM government has fulfilled on the supply of drugs and construction of health facilities, but the challenge only remains with the theft of drugs, for which I plan to recruit inspectors backed by religious leaders to follow up on their utilisation,” Museveni said.

He also warned corrupt public school administrators who continue to charge fees under the  Universal Education Programme, saying the NRM government introduced free education and expects it to be implemented as designed.

“I warn the corrupt public schools administrators who continue to levy fees on learners to stop it and implement the free universal education program as was designed by the NRM government at inception,” Museveni cautioned. On infrastructure development, Museveni listed several major road works in Amuru and the wider Acholi sub-region, saying they will add to the existing network of tarmac roads and boost economic growth.

“The NRM government has undertaken major road works in Amuru and the entire Acholi sub-region to add up to the already existing tarmac roads coverage in the area,” he said. Museveni also urged the people of Amuru District to embrace prioritisation for effective growth and development, warning against scattering projects that overstretch government resources.

“Unthoughtful scattering of projects will overstretch government and yield no results at all,” Museveni noted. He added that the NRM’s focus on peace and security first paved the way for development and wealth creation, which he said should serve as a model for local planning.

“The NRM government prioritised peace and security, which sparked development and wealth creation in a chronological order of priorities that I urge the people of Amuru District to embrace,” he said.
