Museveni hints on increasing annual district road funds to Shs3b – Xclusive News

Date:

Kassanda – President Yoweri Museveni has said government is ready to increase annual road funding to districts from Shs1 billion to Shs3 billion, provided local leaders account for existing allocations and demonstrate the need for additional resources.

Museveni, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, made the remarks while addressing a public rally in Kassanda District, where he expressed concern over the poor state of some roads despite regular funding from central government.

“The road I used to come here is very bad, yet we send Shs1 billion to the district every year. The question is, where does the money go?” Museveni said.

The President warned leaders against mismanaging public funds, noting that poor service delivery often stems from weak accountability at the local level. He cautioned residents against voting leaders who fail to follow up on government programmes and resources meant to improve their livelihoods.

“Do not take voting lightly. When you vote badly, you suffer. If the money we send is not enough, let them tell us. Even if it means increasing it to Shs3 billion, we shall do so,” he said.

Museveni reiterated that the NRM government remains committed to improving infrastructure across the country as part of its broader development agenda. He noted that roads play a critical role in opening up communities, boosting trade and supporting wealth creation.

He urged district leaders to be transparent and proactive in communicating challenges to central government instead of remaining silent while citizens continue to suffer from poor infrastructure.

The President also used the occasion to remind residents that peace and stability under the NRM have enabled sustained investment in infrastructure and service delivery, urging them to support the ruling party if they want continued development.
