Museveni expected at Kwar Adhola 100th birthday fete – UG Standard

Date:

NAGONGERA, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni is expected to join the Jopadhola community Saturday at Elgon View Primary School grounds to celebrate the 100th birthday of His Royal Highness Kwar Adhola Moses Stephen Owor.

The centennial event serves as the climax of festivities for the cultural leader, who reached the century mark Feb. 25. The celebrations are centered on the theme Honoring a Century of Dedicated Service, Enduring Strength and Unwavering Community Spirit.

Owor, the son of the late Mzee Wilbrod Othieno and Norah Nyanganda, has served as the cultural head of the Jopadhola for 26 years. His professional career includes tenures as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Labour and as an official with the International Labour Organization.

The run-up to the grand celebration included a thanksgiving mass at St. Wilbrod’s Church and a series of athletic competitions. In a football final at King George Stadium, Buyemba FC defeated Mbula Galaxy 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. In netball, Aubrey Memorial secured a 42-21 victory over Bocca Juniors.

The Saturday program, released by Jago Richard Josel Obbo, begins at 9 a.m. with the arrival of the public and leaders of the Tieng Adhola. The Katikkiro of Buganda is scheduled to deliver remarks on behalf of other cultural institutions.

The ceremony will feature the presentation of medals and trophies to the winning sports teams, followed by addresses from the Kwar Adhola and the president. The event will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with a ceremonial cake cutting.

The proceedings will be broadcast live on Rock City 98.4 FM and UCTV.
