Murari Decries Election Irregularities, Pledges Peaceful Path Forward – Xclusive UG.

Date:

Mbarara City – Aspiring politician Seth Murari has addressed residents of Mbarara in an emotionally charged speech, reiterating his commitment to the city and clarifying his motives for filing an election petition. Speaking to supporters and residents, Murari emphasized that his political journey is rooted in purpose, not resentment.

“I came into this race with a clean heart and open hands,” Murari said. “My decision to petition was not out of bitterness, but out of a genuine concern for the democratic process and a love for this city.”

Murari, who entered the political scene just two months before the vote, garnered an impressive 12,000 votes—despite facing what he described as coordinated voter irregularities and tribal attacks. He recounted incidents in areas like Rwenturagara and Nyarumba Ward, where his supporters were allegedly blocked from voting and unfamiliar voters were transported to polling stations.

“People stood in long lines to vote, but were disrupted by coordinated actions—minibuses bringing in strangers and election officials allowing them to cast votes. Our polling agents reported zero votes in areas where we had overwhelming support. Is that justice?” he questioned.

Despite contesting the process, Murari maintained a peaceful tone, distancing himself from any form of political unrest.

“Others before us may have taken to the bush in the face of injustice. But we are not going to the bush. We are choosing a peaceful path—one of civic responsibility,” he stated.

He also addressed the tribal sentiments that surfaced during the campaign, particularly claims that his identity as a Muhima should disqualify him from leading Mbarara.

“This city, like this country, belongs to all Ugandans,” he said. “Tribalism should have no place in a city of progress and potential.”

Murari’s speech was filled with humility, even as he left the door open for a future bid—whether as an Independent or within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“If you genuinely feel that I am not the right person to lead you, I will not impose myself. But if you believe in the vision I bring, then I am ready to walk this journey with you,” he told the crowd.

As he awaits the outcome of his petition to the NRM, Murari said he remains committed to the people of Mbarara—whether in elected office or not.

“I’m not going anywhere. I am your friend. I have always been here. And I am ready to serve,” he concluded.
