Bruhan Sserunga, the father of Mubarak Munyagwa, a presidential candidate, has urged voters to vote for President Museveni of the NRM, not his own son, on January 15, 2026.
Speaking at Museveni’s first rally at Kayombo Primary School playground in Kitagwenda district, Sserunga, speaking calmly, said Museveni “must be allowed to complete the development journey he started in 1986.”
He said Museveni had brought peace to Uganda after years of instability under previous governments, which he said were marked by violence and insecurity.
“I thank the president for restoring order and creating opportunities for ordinary people,” said Sserunga, who was dressed in gray trousers, a white shirt matched with a black coat, and a Muslim cap.
His remarks were met with loud cheers from NRM supporters led by Speaker Anita Among, who stood a few feet away from him, on the same podium.
Munyagwa, who is contesting for the presidency under the Common Man’s Party, has been urging Ugandans to ditch Museveni for him.
The former Kawempe South MP has often said Uganda needs a new direction after nearly four decades under Museveni’s leadership.
Sserunga, a respected elder in Kitagwenda, did not directly comment about his son’s political ambitions. At the end of the rally, Sserunga took a photo with Museveni.
