Miria Mukani, a member of the Uganda Local Government Workers Union and NRM aspirant for female lord councillor representing workers, has urged the party’s electoral commission to declare her the winner of the July 25, 2025, primaries held at Mengo Primary School in Kampala.
Speaking to Bbeg Media at her Bombo Road office, Mukani expressed frustration over electoral irregularities, accusing NRM registrar, a one Kato of unprofessional conduct and failing to communicate accurate voter information.
“Let me be counted among people who seek justice and get it. I do believe I followed the electoral processes as required by the NRM constitution and therefore I deserve to be declared the rightful flagbearer for this female workers’ lord councillor position,” said Mukani.
She alleged that non-union members were allowed to vote, violating the NRM constitution, and accused her rivals, Shamim Nandawula and Jackline Katuramu, of voter bribery.
Mukani further claimed that hired goons from Kisenyi and Bwaise, posing as voters, caused election violence, disrupting the process. She singled out Steven Mugisha from the Kazo Workers League for breaking the school gate, enabling non-voters from Nakaseke, Kazo, Ntungamo, Luweero, and Sheema to participate illegally.
Mukani, concerned for her safety as goons threatened her, reported the irregularities to NRM Election Officer Silian Magambo alongside Steven Ouma Bwiire. They were advised to file a petition with the NRM Tribunal.
Mukani criticized the commission for organizing fresh elections on July 26 at Nakasero Primary School without their knowledge, where non-union members Nandawula, Katuramu, and Nicholas Kwalija were declared unopposed.
