Mufti Commends Imams for Community Work

Date:

His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has commended Imams for their tireless spiritual services to their respective communities. This commendation was part of the welcoming remarks delivered on his behalf by Hon. Hajji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the UMSC Secretary General, during a meeting with a delegation of over a hundred Imams. The delegation was led by Haj Nasur Abdallah Musoke, the Chairman of Nabugabo Swadaka, a community-based association focused on propagating Islam in remote areas of the country.

Hajji Muluubya praised the Imams for dedicating their time, despite their busy schedules, to participate in refresher training programs organized by Nabugabo Swadaka each December, as disclosed by Haj Musoke, the team leader. Haj Muluubya also expressed special gratitude to Nabugabo for its innovative ideas, including life skills training programs aimed at Imams heading mosques, especially in hard-to-reach areas of the countryside. He described these programs as aligned with the ten-year UMSC Strategic Plan. “We really thank you for partnering with us in this aspect,” said Haj Muluubya.

Additionally, Haj Muluubya urged the Imams to preach messages of unity among the Muslim faithful and to promote coexistence with members of other faiths, as outlined by the Interreligious Council of Uganda, to foster peace and stability within communities. He concluded by sharing updates on the current state of affairs at UMSC and passed Mufti’s salutations and apologies for being absent due to other engagements.

Earlier, Sheikh Imran Ssali, the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs, and Haj Muhmood Kateregga Namuguzi Sebuganda, a UMSC Executive Member, shared encouraging words with the Imams as they continue their spiritual duties. Meanwhile, Haj Musoke provided a brief background on Nabugabo Swadaka, outlining its objectives, which include the welfare of Imams and the nationwide propagation of Islam.
