MTN Uganda has today concluded a successful edition of the MTN Quarterly Tee, held at Entebbe Golf Club under the theme Friends of Mayo — a special edition dedicated to rallying national support for Uganda’s first and only professional golfer on the DP World Tour, Ronald Rugumayo.
Organized in partnership with Samsung, this edition of the MTN Quarterly Tee brought together golfers, sports enthusiasts, corporate partners, and fans for a vibrant celebration of sport and solidarity. With its tropical paradise theme, the tournament culminated in a colourful 19th Hole celebration featuring MoMoPay activations, spin & win challenges.
Representing MTN Uganda’s Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Kiddu, the company’s General Manager for Business Intelligence, emphasized the importance of backing local heroes who carry Uganda’s name to global arenas:
“When we rally behind our own, amazing things happen. Rugumayo’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent meets support. That’s why we are proud to stand with him—not just as a sponsor, but as believers in what he represents. Together we are unstoppable,” said Kiddu.
As part of the campaign, MTN Uganda launched a nationwide fundraising drive using MTN MoMoPay code 719110, allowing Ugandans across the country to contribute directly to Rugumayo’s journey. Golfers who contributed UGX 100,000 and above between 14th and 21st June were entered into a raffle draw for a chance to win a Samsung S25 smartphone, which was awarded live during the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, an emotional Ronald Rugumayo expressed his gratitude:
“I want to sincerely thank MTN Uganda, Entebbe Club, and all our incredible partners for believing in me and choosing to walk this journey with me. Golf is not just a game—it’s my calling, and your support reminds me that I am not walking alone. With this kind of belief behind me, I know we can take Uganda to even greater heights on the international stage.”
The contributions made through the Friend of Mayo MoMoPay code will go a long way in supporting Mayo as he prepares for several major tournaments, including the Fred Olsen Alps de La Gomera (3rd–5th July), the Alps de Las Castillas (9th–11th July), and the Pearl of Africa Golf Series scheduled to take place in Lugazi from 16th–19th July 2025. Each of these events presents a critical opportunity for Mayo to elevate Uganda’s presence on the international golfing map.
The Friends of Mayo campaign remains ongoing, and MTN encourages all Ugandans to be part of the movement by contributing through MoMoPay Code 719110.
The MTN Quarterly Tee continues to provide an exciting platform that fuses sport, networking, and purposeful celebration—highlighting stories of determination, excellence, and national pride.
