MBALE CITY
Police has given details about an accident that took place on June 21, 2025, at around 5:00 PM, at Busajjabwankuba along the Mbale-Kumi road in Mbale City involving three vehicles.
According to Elgon regional traffic officer, Moses Mutabingwa, the incident involved three motor vehicles: a Mitsubishi Fuso (UBF 501Y), a Toyota Hiace Omni bus (UBP 193R), and a Sinotruk Howo trailer (UBQ 359G/UBQ 457L).
He says the Sinotruk Howo trailer, driven by Ngobi Abubaker, a 53-year-old Musoga man, was heading from Mbale towards Kumi and had slowed down to allow the Toyota Hiace Omni bus to turn right into a petrol station. However, the Mitsubishi Fuso, which was following behind a bus, knocked it from the left rear side, pushing it into the right front light assembly of the trailer.
He says the accident resulted in multiple casualties, including four confirmed victims: Krop Jamar, a 27-year-old man; Lokwar Hussein, a 17-year-old boy; Saruro Richard, a 33-year-old Mugisu man; and several others whose identities and numbers are not yet known.
Mutabingwa adds that Mbale Northern Division Traffic Police responded promptly, visiting the scene and taking the victims to Mbale Referral Hospital.
The accident vehicles have been impounded at the Kumi Road Checkpoint pending inspection. The driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso is still at large, and investigations are ongoing.
