Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged those aspiring for leadership positions to first understand the critical issues affecting the communities they wish to represent before rushing to campaign.
Mayiga made these remarks at Bulange, Mengo, while meeting NRM’s Haruna Kasolo who wants to be the party’s vice chairman in Buganda.
Mayiga said one of the persistent challenges in the country is that some people assume leadership roles without knowing the key issues affecting the people they intend to serve. This has led many to lament repeatedly after elections, as those they elected fail to address their concerns.
Kasolo, who is the minister of state for Microfinance was accompanied by one of his wives, Dr. Aisha Biyinzika Kasolo; Abdul Naduli, a senior presidential advisor and Mamerito Mugerwa, the former Kira Mayor. Their meeting lasted 30 minutes.
“I commend Kasolo for his efforts in addressing Buganda’s issues and participating in various development initiatives,” Mayiga said adding that Buganda welcomes politicians of all shades and colours.
He advised various political parties to curb chaos and negative tendencies displayed in their conduct, stating that such behaviour could lead to voter apathy.
Kasolo explained that he was motivated to first visit the palace before embarking on his campaign to touch base with his roots.
