Mathias Walukagga Urges Voters To Give Artists A Chance In The Next Election

Date:

Singer-turned-politician Sir Mathias Walukagga has rallied voters to give artists a chance when they contest for political offices in the next coming general election.

The Kyengera Town Council Mayor explained that the artists who should be offered the opportunity to run for political offices are those who have been raising their voices for good leadership and sensible matters to have a better Uganda.

“I urge voters, that when artists come to contest for political offices, especially those who have over the years been singing and raising sensible matters on their platforms, please give them the chance to prove their worth.” Walukagga revealed.

Mathias Walukagga further stressed that for the past twenty years, he has been releasing songs criticizing the regime’s poor governance. He also noted that artists were forced to join active politics since they felt that the issues they were addressing in their songs were not being addressed.

“For the last twenty years, I have been composing and singing songs that criticize this regime’s poor governance. I started with a song titled Uganda Essana Kuviira, Parliament, and Bakoowu among others. When saw what we were telling them to implement, they were not doing it, we decided to come to fix it on our own that is why we became active in politics.”

He weighed in on the approved Copyright management system that was passed by President Museveni saying it was approved due to the election pressure that is just around the corner as we head to the 2026 general elections.

He highlighted that there are more challenges affecting the nation such as unemployment among the youth, lack of medicine in hospitals, and unfair taxes among many other challenges.

The copyright management system was approved because they are hunting for votes since the election period is just around the corner but people are sharp. The copyright law isn’t the biggest challenge affecting the nation. There is unemployment, lack of medicine in the hospitals and other challenges.

He bragged about his achievements as the Mayor of Kyengera stating how he has fought land-grabbing cases, bought vehicles, and lobbied for free Wifi for the general public.
