Dancehall musician Mark Da Urban has defended the wayward character among the artists that originate from the ghetto.
Mark Da Urban, real name Olule Mark’s life kicked off from the ghettos of Kawempe, and he has branded himself as a ‘ghetto youth’. The ghetto has raised a number of youngsters who have become superstars. While at the top, some have painted a picture that their previous lifestyle comes with a violent character.
During his appearance on Galaxy TV, Mark Da Urban appealed to the general public to stop judging them based on their character and to tolerate them, as that is how they were brought up. He also explained that they only fight if they are triggered or pushed to the wall.
“Just love us the way we are. The character that amongst the ghetto people that you keep questioning and criticizing is actually okay to us. Same way we judge the character of those up town. Whatever happens in the ghetto and the way people keep criticizing us, you should know that the situation is not good down there. We are battling for life,” he said.

A few have been caught up in situations of violence because of the gangs with which they move around. The gang members, commonly known as ‘Ggali’, are known for protecting their stars, even when it means shedding blood. When asked if he had a gang, Mark D Urban revealed that he only moves around with a group of friends who believe in him and not criminals.

“I have my friends who I have been with for a long time. They have watched me grow and believed in my talent. Being with a group of people around you is not a problem. It is no longer news anymore,” Mark D Urban explained.
