Irene Mutonyi, a renowned Radio Lugisu News Anchor has tightened her sleeves ready to tussle it out in the Manafwa Woman MP race in 2026.
Mutonyi, 30, told our Reporter that the people of Manafwa have asked her to contest and who is she to refuse their plea.
‘They love me, they love the work am doing to empower women and young people. Many have been listening to my work on radio and believe I am the right candidate to better represent them as the woman MP for 2026 – 2031. They believe it is time for young and hardworking women to take charge of the district’s leadership,” she said.
She said that as a journalist who has directly interacted with the real issues that affect the people of Manafwa, including the limited access to clean water for domestic use, people of Manafwa see hope in me.
She says she believes in inclusive development.
“The people of Manafwa have witnessed some of the projects I have introduced to the district that include linking farmers to markets in and out of the district through Manafwa farmers Sacco (MAFSACCO)where I am both a co- founder and board member. Once elected into office top on my agenda will be lobbying for increased access to clean and safe water, a fully equipped and functional government hospital, working with stakeholders to improve the standards of our schools,” she said.
She added that she will also lobby to have a university in the district, better roads in all sub counties. She hails from Nalondo Butta Sub County, Manafwa district.
She holds a diploma in Journalism from Busoga media institute and will be running on FDC ticket.
