Maj Gen Okello Commends Strong Uganda–UK Ties During National Defence College Study Visit

Major General Francis Okello, the Commandant of Uganda’s National Defence College (NDC-U), has applauded the solid bilateral relationship between Uganda and the United Kingdom, attributing it to the enhanced military collaboration between the two nations.

His remarks were delivered while leading the third intake of NDC-U students on an educational visit to the UK Ministry of Defence in London. “We selected the United Kingdom for this academic excursion due to the longstanding diplomatic ties between our nations. This trip is a purposeful step towards reinforcing and nurturing that relationship,” Maj Gen Okello stated.




He expressed admiration for a briefing conducted by UK defence representatives, describing it as “highly insightful” and noting that it would “greatly enrich our assessments and final submission.”

“This encouraging beginning is precisely what we anticipated,” he remarked.

Navy Captain Mariya Ingham, who serves as the UK’s Assistant Head for African Directorate/Affairs, received the Ugandan team warmly. She emphasized that their selection of the UK as a destination highlighted the continuing alliance between the two countries.




“This collaboration is significant and should not be undervalued,” she affirmed, reiterating the UK’s dedication to bolstering peacekeeping efforts and advancing military capability across Africa.

The overseas tour is an essential element of the academic curriculum at NDC-U, designed to expose participants to global defence frameworks and foster international cooperation.
