Lwanga Bwanika to contest in Busiro South MP as independent

Date:

Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the outgoing Wakiso district chairperson, has announced his intention to run for the Busiro South parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections. Speaking to journalists in Wakiso, Bwanika revealed his decision after losing the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket during the party’s vetting process.

“After extensive consultations with my technical team and the people of Busiro South, I declare my candidature for Busiro South as an independent,” Bwanika said. He emphasised that he remains an active NUP member but expressed dissatisfaction with the vetting process conducted at Kavule.

“I do not believe the party had the resources to conduct thorough research across all parts of the country. Research must be scientific, using tools that yield reliable and satisfactory results, which were lacking in this case,” he said.

Bwanika attributed the shortcomings in the process to external interference, suggesting it was a deliberate tactic by the government. “I cannot blame the Election Management Committee (EMC) or the party. The truth is, this is the government’s doing, and it is evident,” he lamented.

Bwanika now joins other prominent NUP members who have also opted to run as independents after failing to secure party tickets. These include Busiro East legislator Medard Sseggona and Mityana Woman MP, Joyce Bagala.
