Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has expressed his willingness and desire to have King Saha lead the musicians.
In 2022, the Uganda Musicians Association announced that it would be electing a new president. King Saha, an incumbent alongside Cindy and Lord Bitem, filed a formal complaint to the association’s electoral committee, protesting against the decision to hold the election online. During an interview with Sanyuka TV, Lukwago revealed that he was present throughout the entire process but was disappointed with the result.
As his biggest fan, Lukwago described Saha as the best candidate to represent the artists due to his talent and love for the industry. He believes King Saha can fight for the good of the industry, which is one of the qualities of a good leader.
The next time I heard, Kenzo was their leader. But I was looking forward to King Saha being the artists’ president. I’m not saying others aren’t fit, but why don’t they vote in the elections? They’re the ones who decide who the real president is. Saha has a heart that loves the industry.
They keep getting on his nerves, and I know he likes chaos too, but he can fight for artists, not only from the inside but also as their representative; that is what I love about him. I wanted him to get that seat, and we as leaders, see where to come in to help the industry. We wanted a change in the industry, but the elections were not fair, he said.
After all the scuffle, Cindy Sanyu was elected president in the ballot that Lukwago described as a sham. He insinuated that the poll was not transparent and fair and would love to have yet another election for artists to elect their president freely and fairly.
They said the elections were online, and when we went to the computer, we saw something else. But I wish for a free and fair election. At least people will be satisfied, but having different leaders in the industry is wrong,” he said.
