Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the Deputy Spokesperson for the National Unity Platform (NUP) and an aspiring Member of Parliament contender for Nakawa East, is under intense criticism.
Landlords in Rubaga North accuse him of avoiding rent payments for months and then disappearing without warning prompting a search by both the public and his creditors.
This scandal surfaced after residents learned about Mufumbiro’s political ambitions to represent Nakawa East, raising concerns about his character and integrity.
A source close to the landlords shared the following troubling account:
Mufumbiro initially rented a house in Mutute, Lubya Zone I, and failed to pay rent for six months.
After the landlord lodged a complaint with the LC1 Chairperson, Mufumbiro reportedly vanished in the middle of the night leaving the debt behind.
A video has surfaced showing the LC Chairperson of Kigonza Zone speaking out about Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro’s alleged rent scandals in Rubaga North, accusing him of repeatedly failing to pay rent and fleeing from landlords.
The source later discovered him living in Kigonza Zone, Kigobe Village near Lugala possibly with one of his wives though it wasn’t clear who he was staying with at the time.
Another landlord, Madam Nakonde, reported him for owing four months’ rent and requested that the case be forwarded to the police.
According to the source, the LC blamed Madam Nakonde of not first introduce tenants to the local council.
And Nakonde claimed that Mufumbiro refused to be introduced to LC, claiming that he is nationally recognized politician and doesn’t need an LC introduction like ordinary tenants.
After Madam Nakonde demanded payment, the LC sent a formal notice to Mufumbiro. But before it was delivered, he allegedly relocated to Nakawa East a place where, as the source noted, he has never lived, rented, or worked. This unplanned move has fueled suspicions about his motives.
A local resident voiced widespread frustration, asking:
“Why should Nakawa replace a known figure like Balimwezo Nsubuga with someone who doesn’t live here, hasn’t paid rent, and is still being chased by landlords in Rubaga North?”
This isn’t just a missing rent payment it’s a blow to the credibility of a public figure and a test of accountability.
As landlords await answers and justice, the scandal continues to cast a dark shadow over Mufumbiro’s ambitions and NUP’s image.
