Kyaka Central MP, Amooti, denies bribing voters in NRM primaries

Date:

Tom Bright Amooti, the incumbent MP forr Kyaka Central in Kyegegwa District, has pledged to prioritize poverty alleviation projects to transform the livelihoods of his constituents if re-elected in 2026.

“After securing the NRM ticket to represent the people of Kyaka Central, my focus will be on expanding poverty alleviation programs to improve the welfare of our people,” Amooti told Bbeg Media at the NRM Electoral Commission offices.

He had gone to defend himself against allegations of voter bribery and electoral malpractice during the recent NRM primaries

He said his constituents face significant challenges, including poor road networks that hinder access to markets for transporting goods from rural areas to trading centers, limited access to clean water, insufficient scholastic materials in local schools, and the need to upgrade health centers with modern medical equipment.

Amooti also emphasized the importance of improving remuneration for medical workers and promoting mechanized agriculture to boost economic growth and development.

Addressing petitions filed against him, which alleged that he bribed polling agents to deny rival agents access to declaration forms, Amooti dismissed the claims as attempts to undermine his victory and sabotage his political success.
Kyegegwa District, located in the Tooro subregion of western Uganda, spans a total area of 1,747 square kilometers, with Kyaka Central being one of its counties.
