Kampala’s contemporary dance scene is set for a powerful moment as Batalo East Dance prepares to stage Kubeba Mbegu, a bold new dance production choreographed by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Nambooze Haula.
Scheduled for 21 February at the Uganda National Theatre, the performance will run in two shows. The first show is set for 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a second performance from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Admission is priced at UGX 25,000, making the experience accessible to dance lovers and culture enthusiasts alike.
Kubeba Mbegu, which translates to “carrying seeds,” explores themes of strength, balance, resilience, and survival through powerful movement and grounded physicality.
Drawing inspiration from everyday African experiences, the dancers use evocative imagery and expressive choreography to reflect personal and collective journeys rooted in community, heritage, and endurance.
Known for pushing creative boundaries and spotlighting authentic African narratives, Batalo East Dance Theater continues its tradition of using dance as both an artistic expression and a tool for social commentary.
