KAMPALA, Uganda – KPMG has announced the appointment of Tola Adeyemi as the new chief executive officer for KPMG in Africa, part of a broader leadership restructuring aimed at supporting long-term growth across the continent.
The appointments, which take effect March 1, also include the addition of Professor Olayinka David-West and George Njenga as independent members of the Africa Governance Council. The council provides board-level oversight and strategic guidance for the firm’s regional operations.
Adeyemi, who has been with KPMG for more than 23 years, currently serves as CEO for KPMG West Africa. In his new role, he will lead the Africa Executive Committee and join the Africa Governance Council. He succeeds at a time when the firm is pushing its One Africa strategy, designed to increase cross-border collaboration and provide consistent service quality across diverse markets.
Africa is one of the most dynamic and promising regions in the global economy, and KPMG is committed to playing a meaningful role in its growth story, Adeyemi said. I look forward to building on our strong, connected and high-performing base to deepen collaboration and deliver consistent quality and impact across our markets.
Professor Ben Marx, chairman of the Africa Governance Council, said Adeyemi is exceptionally well positioned to lead the regional strategy due to his global perspective and credibility as a business leader.
The addition of David-West and Njenga to the governance council is intended to strengthen independent oversight. David-West is the dean of the Lagos Business School and an expert in digital financial services, while Njenga is the founding dean of the Strathmore Business School and specializes in governance and leadership.
The leadership team also includes regional heads who will work alongside Adeyemi to execute the firm’s strategy. Benson Ndung’u continues as CEO for KPMG East Africa, while Joelene Pierce will assume the role of CEO for KPMG Southern Africa on March 1.
KPMG stated that these appointments underscore its commitment to high standards of ethics and audit quality, which are increasingly demanded by both public and private sectors across Africa.
