Police have arrested two armed robbers of Rwandan origin for allegedly masterminding four robberies across Kisoro District, specifically in Mugombero Town Center, Natate, and Mutorole.

According to ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Mouthpiece, the duo was arrested on Saturday June 27, 2025, in an operation.

He identifies them as Irankunda Gerald alias Ndereya and Habyarimana Vallence, from Karumena and Kisoro Hill villages in Kisoro District, respectively.

Following his arrest, Irankunda Gerald led the police team to Kisoro Hill village, where he had concealed an AK-47 firearm along with one magazine, one live round of ammunition, a pair of police khaki trousers, and a pair of suspected police jungle boots. These items were promptly recovered by Police.

During interrogation, Irankunda Gerald confessed to participating in four armed robberies across Kisoro District, specifically in Mugombero Town Center, Natate, and Mutorole. These cases are registered under CRBs 303/2025, 304/2025, 381/2025, and 402/2025 at Kisoro Central Police Station.

Further investigations revealed that Irankunda had previously escaped from Ruti Police Station in Mbarara while under interrogation by the Flying Squad Unit, after being initially arrested in Kisoro.

He also disclosed that he committed these robberies alongside Habyarimana Vallence, a Rwandese national, and Anthony Imanirakiza, who was earlier apprehended by the community and handed over to Kisoro Police.

Other accomplices remain at large. Inquiries are ongoing, and any new developments will be communicated accordingly.
